In depth ramblings about cooking, homekeeping, and whatever else I decide to write about.
Hard pear cider, also known as perry, is one of my favorite adult drinks. I hate beer, so it’s a nice thing to drink when everyone else is having a brewski, and you don’t want to bother with a mixed drink or crack open a bottle of wine. I have tried several brands and Ace is definitely my favorite. It has a nice balance of crisp, dry, and sweet (it’s only slightly sweet.) It has a really clean flavor and a delightful smell. It contains about 5% alcohol by volume, so one bottle of cider is equivalent to a beer.
Pear cider is made grinding down special cider pears into a paste. The paste is then pressed until the juice is extracted. After the juice is extracted, yeast is added to the juice and it is allowed to ferment (which is the process where yeast turns the sugars into booze.) They stop the fermentation before all of the sugar is consumed by the yeast. Pear cider is naturally carbonated from the fermentation process, so it is nice and bubbly. It’s really fun to drink and is a nice change up from the usual.
